We'll be adding details of restaurants where we've had good food and friendly service, with an approximate cost for two with drinks as and when we get the opportunity to revisit our favourite places.

Hotel Printania – Dinard

We found this by accident and, as soon as we walked through the door, were charmed by its vintage Breton style. The same family has run this hotel since 1925. In summer, the wooden windows are completely removed to give that lovely sense of being both inside and outside, with a lovely view down into the bay and across the Rance estuary to St Malo.

There are fixed menus at 26 and 40 € and the cheaper menu can be further reduced to 18 € if you only choose a starter and main course or main course and dessert. You can, of course, order à la carte. We paid 21 € for a bottle of Touraine Sauvignon.

As you’d expect, there’s plenty of fresh seafood to choose from. We had smoked salmon with mild horseradish cream and melon coulis, followed by langoustines with mayonnaise and a whole spider crab, then desserts of clafoutis aux prunes and a text-book perfect, impressively tall but light as feather, orange and Grand Marnier soufflé.

A three course meal for two with wine for around 100 €. Reserve your place as soon as you arrive in Dinard, or ask us to phone ahead for you, to make sure you get a table by the window.
